All of these things help us, the alcoholic, carry the message to those who have not yet found a life without the need and obsession for alcohol. It allows us to practice the principals of AA in all of our affairs.
Service work can include chairing a meeting, being a group's GSR or volunteering with one of the AA service committees in the area. Such as; answering the phones at the Intergroup offices or helping with round-ups as a volunteer on the Social Committee.

As an old timer in AA once said; "you have to give it away in order to keep it" . The best way to give it away, is to help other alcoholics who are still suffering.

A.A. service is anything that us alcoholics can do to reach out and help a fellow sufferer - ranging all the way from the Twelfth Step itself, to a cup of coffee, an empathetic ear, greeting people or just sharing our experience, strength and hope at meetings.
Our Twelfth Step - Carrying the Message - is the basic service that the A.A. Fellowship gives; this is our principal aim and the main reason for our existence. Therefore, A.A. is more than a set of principals; it is a society of alcoholics in action. We must carry the message, or else we ourselves can wither and die.
When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help,
I want the hand of AA always to be there,
And for that I am responsible.
As an added bonus, service work is a lot of fun and you meet an amazing number of fascinating people. So, if you are interested in delving into AA Service work, please click on the area of interest.
